Google has just rolled out the Android 16 QPR3 update for Pixel devices, bringing a slew of fresh user interface enhancements that are already capturing attention across the tech community. With the latest beta build, Pixel users are seeing new launcher animations and improved home screen transitions, pushing Android’s visual experience to the next level.

What’s New in Android 16 QPR3 for Pixel

The Android 16 QPR3 update introduces a sleek new animation when opening folders—something many Pixel enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for.

Smooth “Hitchcock-Style” Folder Zoom Animation

Instead of the old static expansion, the updated launcher now animates folders with a smooth zoom effect that makes the background subtly shrink as the folder opens. This creates a more immersive, dynamic feel and elevates the overall home screen experience. This animation feels noticeably more fluid compared to the smoother but less dynamic effect in previous Android 16 versions.

Improved Launcher UI & Customization Options

Beyond the new folder transition, Google has reorganized several launcher customization settings so they feel more intuitive:

  • The themed icon option has been repositioned beside icon shape selections, making it easier to personalize your home screen look without navigating multiple menus.

  • Users can now switch between icon styles such as default and minimal more seamlessly within the wallpaper customization screen.

  • Although icon shape options remain unchanged in number, their placement makes toggling between styles smoother and more immediate.

However, don’t expect the new shapes to show up in the app drawer just yet—the current limitation still applies.
